Product Details

EL7287 - A 1796 pattern light cavalry officer's sabre by Osborn, circa 1796-1807. Featuring "Osborn's Warranted" in an etched scroll to one side of the blade and initials RL etched on the other face. This latter might be the officer's initials, or is perhaps regimental. The hilt and scabbard ironwork have very dark patina and pitting overall, although structurally sound and all tight, complete and solid. In contrast, the grip and blade are in very good condition, with the leather and silver wire of the grip intact, and the blade being the main highlight, having a smooth un-pitted and bright finish, protected for over 200 years by the scabbard. Osborn was a top maker of the day, and this blade is broad and robust compared to average examples. Sheathes well in the scabbard, which is clearly original and matches the condition of the hilt exactly.
