1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Sabre by Dawes
EL7447 - A good and untouched 1796 pattern light cavalry trooper's sabre by Dawes of Birmingham. The hilt has been painted black at some point in its life, but is in basically good condition otherwise, with the leather of the grip surviving well. The blade is dark with patina and does have some areas of pitting, but is firm in the hilt and should clean up well. The blade, which carries the crown acceptance mark for military service, also has a bit of a warp to it about 12 inches from the tip (priced accordingly). Complete in substantial scabbard marked to Johnston of the Strand, which has an unusual washer at the mouth - I suspect that this sword and scabbard did not start their life together, but have perhaps been together since the Georgian period.
