1821 Pattern Light Cavalry Trooper Sword
EL7008 - An 1821 pattern light cavalry troopers' sword. The scabbard is marked to Deakin, but there is no maker's mark on the sword that I can see. That said, the sword has very dark patina, and cleaning it might reveal something not currently visible. The scabbard matches the sword in pattern, and fits well, but given the difference in condition and patina, I suspect that these two have been put together in recent times. There are unit/regimental markings to both the scabbard and the guard of the sword. The sword itself is structurally sound, but with dark patina, and the leather of the grip is worn down to the wood in most parts. The hilt is firm on the tang. An important pattern of sword, which was still being carried during the Crimean War and beyond.
