1827 Pattern Royal Navy Sword for Restoration
ON HOLD
EL7421 - An 1827 pattern Royal Navy officer's sword, for restoration. The blade is quite clean and in good condition, though the etching is very faint and I cannot quite make out which monarch this sword is likely to have been made under. My guess is very early in Victoria's reign, around 1840. The hilt is quite dirty and needs a good clean up, but is fairly firm on the tang with only the tiniest bit of movement in the guard. The folding drop section works, but is rather loose. The grip shagreen and wire is in good condition and all secure. The scabbard is in pieces, with very dry and shrunken leather, with the chape and leather at the point detached. The locket has a Georgian/early-Victorian suspension style with two rings either side, but one of these has become detached, but is still present. This sword is therefore being sold as a restoration project, but the sword itself is actually in quite decent condition once cleaned up.
