Product Details
EL6994 - An 18th or early-19th century Ottoman Turkish kilij/pala of classic form. Featuring a 25 inch blade with typical kilij shape, having a T-section spine and raised yelman false edge. I am quite sure that the blade is wootz (see photos), but I have not cleaned, restored or etched it. NOTE that the adhesive pitch filling the guard has failed and the guard is no longer glued in place, and this requires restoration accordingly. The guard is gilded copper alloy, as is the grip strap, which are all covered with floral decoration in the Ottoman style. The grip is made of translucent horn and is secure on the tang. A fantastic example of this desirable sword type, in need of some relatively simple restoration.
