Product Details

EL7196 - A British 18th century backsword, probably composite. The blade dates to the mid to late-18th century, but I believe that the guard and pommel are early-19th century. The grip is old, leather wrapped with a spiral riser. This could be a later assemblage of original parts, or it could be a period construction, as Highland officers certainly did make use of older blades on their regimental swords, so it could have been put together in the 19th century for military use. The 18th century blade is 33 inches long and has some light pitting. The guard and pommel are in good condition, but would benefit from some cleaning, and the grip is in sound condition, but not tight on the tang (needs inserts top and bottom), probably due to the loss of the guard liner. No scabbard.
