EL6996 - A 19th century Borneo Dayak mandau headhunter's sword, or parang ilang. Featuring a sharp single-edged, clipped-back 19 inch blade, with an intricately carved and decorated bone hilt, having coloured hair embellishments and a cord-wrapped grip. Housed in a wooden and rattan bone-decorated scabbard. Some loss to the hair of the hilt, and also to the wood of the scabbard, it remains largely complete and a good example of the type, with very fine carving to the bone, and a substantial and good quality blade, which is firm in the hilt with no movement.
