EL7360 - A scarce 1788 pattern heavy cavalry troopers' sword, featuring a wonderful 36 inch backsword blade which has been repeatedly service sharpened. The blade and hilt are both in very good condition for the age and model, though the grip has been re-wrapped at some point in the past with leather, and I presume the leather underneath might also be a replacement (I have not yet had one of this model of sword with the original grip complete!). There is a tiny bit of movement in the grip, but generally I would describe this hilt as firm on the tang. The blade is straight, with some light pitting, but generally very good order, evident sharpening and one small nick in the cutting edge. This general model of sword, while generally termed the '1788 pattern' was in use before 1788, so I suppose this could date to the 1770s or 1780s, in use around the time of the US Revolutionary War and beginning of the Napoleonic Wars. A lovely sword that feels great in the hand.
