A large restored Victorian Light Cavalry Officer's Sword
EL7232 - A Victorian light cavalry sword. This is a bit of an enigma - it has been refurbished by Pooley Sword, and is clearly a Victorian light cavalry sword, but the big 36 inch blade has no proof disc and no etching. The blade is almost straight. The hilt is a standard mid-Victorian style with a half-checkered back piece and checkered pommel, all tight with no movement. The shagreen has been reconditioned and the wire is restored. The scabbard seems to be from an 1892 Household Cavalry sword, but it does fit this blade well. It has been service sharpened, and my guess is that this was a custom officer's sword which probably lost its scabbard and had this one added during restoration. It's a big beefy sword, but I have priced it according to the lack of provenance.
