Attributed Late-Victorian Wilkinson RAMC Officer's Sword
EL7158 - An excellent example of an attributed Victorian Royal Army Medical Corps RAMC (surgeon) officer's sword by Wilkinson. Numbered 38724 for January 1901, the sword was purchased by A H M Mitchell. Mitchell is recorded as serving in India in 1901, but I have not researched him more than that. RAMC swords are relatively uncommon, but most are from Edward VII or the WW1 (George V) era, so it's great to see a Victorian example here. The blade is essentially perfect, with original mirror polish and crisp frost etching, firm in the hilt with no movement. The hilt is also excellent, with the brass guard in good shape and I have left the patina alone (thought it could be polished bright), and excellent shagreen and wire. The steel scabbard has light pitting, but is clearly the original scabbard to this sword and fits perfectly. A great example of the pattern with plenty of research potential.
