Crimean War era 1845 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword by Thurkle
EL7148 - An 1845 pattern infantry officer's sword by Thurkle. Dating to the 1850's, this sword has been extensively service sharpened, with the point being given a more slender profile. This sharpening and subsequent polishing has removed a lot of the etching detail from the blade, but this seems to be original to period and not modern. The grip features a checkered thumb placer, which is relatively unusual on 1845 pattern swords of this time. The brass guard with folding drop section, which probably dates this to before c.1860, it is likely this sword was taken on campaign in this period, given the work on the blade. There are some grip wires loose and there is a bit of movement in the hilt. Complete with original scabbard and original sword knot.
