Early 1821 Pattern Light Cavalry Officer's Sword
EL7446 - An early example, marked to George IV, of the 1821 pattern light cavalry officer's sword, circa 1825. The blade with prominent 'yelman' false edge is unusually straight for this type, and in good clean condition, though the etching is very faint now. The hilt is in good condition, with large rounded rear quillon so distinctive of the earlier examples, with excellent condition shagreen and grip wire. There is movement in the guard (due to the contraction of the leather washer with age), whereas the grip itself is firm on the tang. This could be remedied with a wedge or shim if desired. Please note that the scabbard is not original to this sword, but I had a spare one which fit very well, so have put them together, as this is othewise a very nice sword and it seemed a shame to leave it scabbardless when I had one suitable that fit (a rare thing!).
