Early-Victorian P1821 Light Cavalry Officer's Sword by Prosser
EL7025 - A good early-Victorian (1837-1845) light cavalry officer's sword 1821 pattern by top maker Prosser, in scabbard. Featuring the 1821 pattern pipe-backed blade (which was replaced by the fullered blade in 1845), together with the VR cypher, this places the sword firmly between 1837 and 1845. The blade is in excellent condition with original mirror polish and deep etching, and it has been service sharpened. The hilt is also in very good condition, with a bright guard and back piece. The grip is in quite good condition, with just a little lifting of the shagreen at the pommel end. The normal round nut has been replaced at some distant time with a small hexagonal nut, but this seems to be a period replacement and it seems to have been plated. The hilt is very firm on the tang, with only the very slightest tiny bit of movement in the guard. Housed in its correct original scabbard, in bright polish. A good quality sword that probably saw service in the 1840s or 50s.
