EL7297 - A French M1822 heavy cavalry sabre 'Bancal'. Featuring the 4-bar hilt instead of the more common 3-bar of the light cavalry, this example has a 34 inch blade, with matching length scabbard. I am not sure why this is slightly shorter than the usual 37 inch blade found on these, but the French Army did reduce the length of some swords (and their scabbard) later in the 19th century, so that might be the answer. There is no maker or date on the spine of the blade, which is plain. Montmorency blade in good bright condition, firm in the hilt with no movement. The leather of the grip also in good condition.
