Product Details
EL7141 - A good quality Georgian/early-Napoleonic infantry officer's spadroon by Cullum of Charring Cross (London). This was a family business and could relate to James, Thomas or Matthew, but must date the sword to 1796 or earlier. I would date this sword to the 1770s or 1780s. The grip is ribbed black wood, perhaps ebony, and the guard and back piece are iron, with intricate detailing. The slender 32 inch blade is mostly bright, with crisp engraving featuring the Royal cypher and arms, and it has a bit more patina where the scabbard has broken off and been lost. The hilt is firm on the tang, with just a tiny bit of wiggle in the guard. A very light and agile sword.
