Product Details

EL7281 - A 1751 pattern hanger marked to the 2nd Battalion of the Huntingdon Militia (62nd Royal American Regiment of Foot), by Thomas Craven. The blade marked as approved for service by the Board of Ordnance, and having Thomas Craven's stamp (1798-1803 & 1818-1820). The regiment was raised in New York and Philadelphia in 1755 and served in various parts of the Americas and West Indies until it transferred to England in 1824, while the 2nd Battalion could either refer to the 1st Battalion before it was renamed, or the subsequent 2nd Battalion, which had been the 3rd Battalion until 1818 and transferred to England in 1830. More research is required! But the fact that this was made by Thomas Craven dates this sword to between 1798-1803 or 1818-1820. The curved hanger blade is in generally quite good condition, with some corrosion areas but clear markings. The hilt is quite loose on the tang, but secure. Otherwise the brass hilt is in good condition and complete.
