Product Details
EL6993 - An Indian (South Indian?) sword, featuring a European firangi imported blade, circa 1800. The 18th century European blade, carrying the remnants of an inscription, perhaps SOLINGEN, in the fuller, it is almost straight, with a very slight curve, and an impressive 36 inches long. The tulwar-style hilt, probably a bit later in date than the blade, of some form of white metal (silver alloy?), of a characteristic form which I believe is associated with Southern India, having a relatively small disc pommel, with fluted domed cap, and conical pointed quillons. The blade is firm in the hilt, with no movement. The blade with some patina, but in overall very nice condition and very sharp, with the very tip lost, but easily restorable.
