EL6997 - A high quality and high status example of a Kachin Naga dao, from Assam/Burma circa 1900. The 22.5 inch blade made of layered steel with a visible quenched edge (like a hamon), the characteristic bevel only on one side of the blade and squared tip. The silver grip collar, with detailed decoration, denotes this as a high status example, with wood and rattan bound grip, having a bone pommel cap. The blade with patina and some very light pitting, but in very good condition. There are some numbers and letters engraved on the blade. The hilt is overall in good condition, but there is a (stable) split in the wood, and there is movement in the hilt and silver collar. No scabbard
