Late-Victorian Rifle Volunteers Officer's Sword by Mole/Steamer
ON HOLD
EL7293 - A high quality 1880s Rifle Volunteers officer's sword by Mole of Birmingham, operating under the "Steamer" trademark. The 32.5 inch blade on this sword is almost perfect, being plated mirror finish with frost etching - with only a couple of tiny spots where the plating has gone. This blade looks virtually like the day it was made. The hilt and scabbard unfortunately have been exposed to the elements and now have a very dark patina, though they are smooth and sound. Everything is absolutely solid and tight, with no movement, and the shagreen is very good - the wire would benefit from cleaning. There are an officer's initials etched on the blade, but without knowing which regiment the officer was in, it would probably be next to impossible to pin them down sadly.
