Product Details

EL7010 - A top quality light cavalry officer's sword, featuring the scarce and sought-after 'flat solid' (unfullered) blade, by Andrews/Reeves. This sword sadly has a quite badly pitted hilt and scabbard, but in all other ways is in good condition. The fantastic 35.5 inch blade is mostly bright, just with some patina near the ricasso, well and finely service sharpened, and completely solid in the hilt, with no movement. The grip is also very good and has a pleasing flat shape, and this sword feels great in the hand. While the ricasso etching shows that this was retailed by Andrews, the etching and proof disc style make me fairly certain that this was made by Charles Reeves of Birmingham around 1850, and Reeves seem to have been a main supplier of Andrews. If you can live with the pitting of the hilt and scabbard, this is a fantastic sword, and was probably made between about 1850 and 1855, and carried on active service in one of the campaigns of the 1850s or 60s.
