Product Details

EL6928 - An imposing mid-18th century British Heavy Cavalry backsword, featuring a 38.5 inch blade. Dark patina overall and some light pitting, two branches of the guard have been damaged/broken during its life (the patina dark, so presumably a very long time ago!) - the guard nevertheless retains a good shape and is structurally solid and sound, with no movement. It is of course possible that this guard damage happened during its active service life, but we cannot say for sure. The grip is original and very nice, with good survival of the shagreen and a pleasing shape with flat back. The guard with loop for insertion of the reins when firing a pistol. The blade single-edged and double-fullered for the first half, then switching to double-edged and single-fullered in the end half. Untouched, unrestored, a good honest piece, which is fantastic in the hand and everything tight.
