Named Victorian Wilkinson Infantry Officer's Sword
EL7164 - A late-Victorian 1845 pattern infantry officer's sword by Wilkinson, numbered 28132 (date 26th May 1887) and recorded in the record book as sold to C.C. Pearson Esq. In fact the etched dedication on the blade shows that the sword was given by a C. K. W. but we do not know who that was. The officer who carried this was Charles Coffin Pearson of the 52nd Light Infantry, and he served in the 1897 Mohmand Campaign and also the Tirah Expedition, for which he received the medal and clasps. The sword blade has accordingly been service sharpened for active duty. The sword is in 'mixed' condition, in that it has a very worn grip, with 50% of the shagreen gone and the remains of a little wood worm (long gone), and the base of the blade has some dark patina and pitting. But this aside, the sword is in solid and sound condition, mechanically good, and the rest of the blade is really clean and bright with good etching and tidy service sharpening. The brass guard is the options extra wide type, with a more elaborate inner section. Complete with original scabbard and it sheathes well.
