Napoleonic 1803 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sabre by Dawes
EL6986 - A Napoleonic era 1803 pattern infantry officer's sabre by Dawes of Birmingham. Originally with blue and gilt decoration on the first half of the blade, this is now mostly rubbed away, but you can still see the engraving and remains of what this would have looked like originally. The second half of the blade is in high polish (it appears to have been repolished), with a few rust spots, including at the tip. I think this blade could be enhanced with some careful attention. The hilt is firm on the tang and is in excellent condition, with almost all the gilt remaining, the leather in good condition on the grip and all the grip wire. The scabbard is missing the end, including the chape, but as these scabbards so often perish, it is good to have at least half of it remaining and the possibility of restoring the end. A good sword with a lot of potential to improve further.
