Rifle Brigade Sword of Prominent Victorian Aristocrat and First Lord of the Admiralty
EL7157 - The Rifle Brigade sword of Lord George Francis Hamilton, G.C.S.I., made by Pillin. Lord George Francis Hamilton (1845–1927) was a prominent British Conservative and Unionist politician who served in high-ranking government roles, including Secretary of State for India (1895–1903) and First Lord of the Admiralty. A member of the aristocracy, he served as the M.P. for Ealing and held key roles in late 19th-century British political life. He served in both the Rifle Brigade and the Coldstream Guards (more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_George_Hamilton). This is his sword from the former. The hilt of this Rifles sword is silver plated, though with some loss due to rust, and the whole sword would benefit from a good restoration. The blade is in good condition, with deep etching, but quite dark patina, and there is no scabbard. The sword is structurally sound, with no movement.
