EL7147 - A scarce 1832 pattern (sometimes called 1834 pattern) Royal Horse Guards officer's state sword. Featuring the so-called 'Continental' hilt, inspired by French swords, this features the crown and Tudor roses of the Royal Horse Guards (which differentiates it from the 2nd Life Guards sword - the only other regiment to carry this sword style). These swords were first adopted around 1832 and mostly seem to date to c.1832-1855. This example has a plain undecorated blade, with no maker or retailer marked. The large blade, with its regulation hatchet point, is 38 inches long, with light patina and good condition overall. The brass hilt has taken on a deep green patina, which I have left alone. The shagreen of the grip is good, though some strands of wire are missing. The hilt is completely solid on he tang, with no movement. Sadly the scabbard is lost. A quite scarce sword which is a vital model for any British cavalry sword collection. Priced according to the lack of scabbard.
