Product Details

EL6940 - A scarce example of an 1892 pattern Rifles sword for an officer of the British Indian Army (c.1892-1895), by Pillin. The retailer's name is worn and difficult to see, but you can read Calcutta and the proof disc is that of Pillin - a top maker. The 1892 pattern blade is rather worn, with much of the etching quite rubbed, but you can clearly see the VRI crowned emblem of British India (Victoria Regina Imperator). The blade has a few small nicks to the edge (which has not been sharpened), and the blade is firm in the hilt. The hilt is nickel plated and in quite good condition, and has the pre-1895 style of back piece. Housed in an Indian service style of leather scabbard with steel fittings.
