EL7242 - A US Civil War Model 1860 cavalry sabre by C. Roby, dated to 1864. A good clean example of the famous M1860 sabre used throughout the US Civil War, carrying the clear stamped markings of Roby, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts. The blade bright and in original polish, with the transverse polish of the forte nice and crisp, and a well formed Montmorency fuller next to the spine. The blade firm in the hilt, with no movement. The hilt in good uncleaned condition, with patina and what looks like some old varnish, also evident on the scabbard. The grip leather in quite good condition, and secure. The sword sheathes well and is a good unrestored 'sleeper'.
