EL7415 - A US Civil War era, US Navy officer's sword Model 1852, made by W Clauberg of Solingen and retailed by Tomes, Son & Melvain of New York. Because of the lack of 'Co' to Tomes, Son & Melvain (added in 1864), I believe this example is early and dates to 1852-1864, so around the time of the US Civil War. This model of sword got a narrower blade after 1870, against helping to date this example. The 29 inch curved blade with grey patina, but crisp and clear etching. The hilt in good condition, with all the shagreen and wire, though there is movement in the guard, despite the leather washer being intact. Complete in the correct original scabbard with nautical motifs all over the hilt and scabbard matching. Quite a rare piece.
