Product Details

EL7143 - An excellent and unusual Georgian officer's sword, circa 1780-1796. Featuring an enlarged spadroon style hilt, with extra sabre-style scrolling side-bars to the iron guard, mounted on a broad heavy cavalry style backsword blade of 35 inches long. The blade with patina and a little pitting here and there, it has clear engraving, featuring the Royal cypher. The blade has been service sharpened and has a few small nicks. The grip and pommel are of a typical English spadroon style popular around 1780-1795, but enlarged, with a fatter grip and larger pommel, to balance the suit the larger blade. The hilt is firm on the tang, with only a very tiny bit of movement in the guard. A really fascinating sword, which must have been carried on active service during a very lively period of history.
