Unusual Napoleonic Officer's Sabre
EL7364 - An unusual Georgian era/Napoleonic light cavalry officer's sword. At first sight this sabre carries several features that remind the viewer of a British 1788 pattern light cavalry sabre, but while it is possible that this was carried by a British officer, I think it is probably Continental, and I would presume from a national allied with the British, such as the Dutch or Prussians. The bright and clean 33.5 inch blade is almost certainly of Solingen manufacture from the style of the engraving, but there is no maker marked. The most distinctive feature of this attractive sword is the 3-bar hilt in steel. The leather and wire wrapped grip is in good condition, with a little bit of movement in the hilt construction. The sword knot remaining in place might help pin down the precise origin/nationality of this unusual sword. Complete with leather scabbard having steel fittings and two suspension rings. Condition overall is very good.
