Product Details

EL7184 - A Victorian era British Raj Indian cavalry sabre. No maker mark visible, but probably British made and there are some regimental markings on the underside of the guard, which I have not researched. Hardwood grip, which would not have been covered, with side langets to the back piece, and three bar guard. The hilt firm on the blade. The 31 inch blade is of 'Paget' style, based on the 1796 pattern light cavalry sabre, and has been extensively and repeatedly service sharpened, and the tip has had a slight clipped-point with false edge added, to make it better at thrusting. These are difficult to date, as this general family of swords was in use from circa 1860 until 1918, but this seems to be a relatively early example, perhaps 1860s. No scabbard.
