EL7027 - A good extra quality Victorian Royal Navy officer's sword, numbered 19751 (finished on 30th July 1875). Unfortunately there is no name on the Wilkinson record, but the blade has been service sharpened (quite unusually for Royal Navy swords at this time), so it was presumably carried on campaign sometime in the last couple of decades of the 19th century. It is worth noting that this is not a standard Royal Navy officer's scabbard - it has extensive extra decoration, so my conclusion is that must have been carried by a senior officer, as it would have looked quite odd for a junior officer to be wearing this. The sword is in overall good condition, the blade with some light patina and a few little corrosion spots, the blade firm in the hilt with no movement. There is a little bit of deformation to the drop section of the guard, though it functions well, and the chape of the scabbard is no longer fixed to the leather of the scabbard (it needs gluing) - also note that there is some kind of obstruction inside the drag of the scabbard, so the blade stops about 1 inch short of going fully into the scabbard. The hilt is otherwise in good condition, with good shagreen and wire. A top quality example of a Victorian Naval officer's sword, almost certainly carried on campaign.
