Product Details

EL7028 - A superb Wilkinson Victorian Royal Navy officer's sword. Dated to 1882, sadly there is no name on the Wilkinson record and none on the sword, so we will never know who the officer was, but the sword has been well service sharpened and 1882 was an interesting year with the invasion of Egypt. This sword almost certainly saw active service in 1882 or the next decade or so. The sword is in very good condition and has clearly been kept in service for a good amount of time, having been polished enough to wear down the Wilkinson name plaque on the scabbard, and the ricasso. The blade is bright, with just small areas of patina, and is firm in the hilt. The gilt hilt is in excellent condition, as is the shagreen and grip wire. While this is fantastic as a historical object, the condition, including the scabbard, are good enough to be revived for a modern service Royal Navy officer if desired.
