WW1 Royal Engineers Officer's Sword
EL7076 - A George V WW1 era 1897 pattern Royal Engineers officer's sword, by Carrington of Kent. Unknown maker, but probably Birmingham or Sheffield made, the officer's name was etched on the blade and then deliberately erased for some reason (probably the sword was carried by another officer later on). As the name is still partially visible, it might be possible to match it to a Royal Engineers officer by trawling the army lists. The blade has been service sharpened, presumably for WW1 service, and given that swords were not carried much after 1916, it is likely that this officer was serving in 1914. The blade with crisp and unusually intricate etching, firm in the hilt. The plated guard, grip shagreen and wire all in good condition, and with the original sword knot.
