EL7233 - An 1896 pattern cavalry officer's sword by Pillin. The 35.5. inch blade with mottled patina overall, so that it is difficult to tell which monarch's cypher is etched on the blade, but it looks like George V to me, which places this sword around 1910-1914, as most cavalry officers were buying the 1912 pattern from 1912 onwards. The blade is well service sharpened, so this was presumably taken to WW1 and despite the patina, the blade is structurally sound and firm in the hilt with no movement. The hilt is in quite good condition, the guard also with patina and some light pitting, but all solid, and the grip shagreen and silver wire are actually very good. Complete in field service scabbard, though as shown in the photos the chape end has broken off and this requires some restoration work to re-attach it. Priced according to the condition, but a good quality and solid sword.
